So your having friends over and making all this great food for the holiday.  You’ve stocked up on all sorts of things that you can’t drink because the carb levels are too high…soda’s, beer, etc.  for your guests.

Beer the fourth of July and the DiabeticBeer the fourth of July and the Diabetic.  Don’t fret.  A lot of people can’t or do not like to drink hard liquors such as vodka and prefer beer.

These three brands of beer will allow you to indulge and their carbs  are lower than you might think. However, caution is advised. The beer drinking diabetic  has to realize that just because the beer is low carb, it does not mean that you can drink all that you want.  Alcoholic drinks will lower your blood sugar levels and can take you to the brink of hypoglycemia.  Thus, you have to drink responsibly and never drink on an empty stomach.  Testing your blood sugar before your party begins is also a wise idea.

This said, you can enjoy a frosty one or two during your holiday celebration.

I’ve only featured three of many low carb beers that are available to diabetics.  A full list of brewers, their beer which includes carbs, calories and alcoholic content can be found here.

Diabetics need to drink responsibly, even more so than the average person.

As a diabetic, I have to count my carbs and watch my diet diligently.  With the holiday upon us, we have to take extra precautions that we don’t upset our delicate balance and stay with our diet.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!  And, please remember to watch those carbs!
